Oak Ridge Color Guard Moving on Up

Oak Ridge High School’s color guard has been promoted by Winter Guard International from Scholastic A to Scholastic Open competition class due to their outstanding performance at the Houston regional on Saturday, Feb. 19.  The guard placed first in both preliminary and finals competition, and had the highest overall score of 81.8 of any competing classes.

The guard will host a Texas Color Guard Circuit competition at Oak Ridge on Saturday, March 12.  Currently, 78 units (63 color guard and 15 percussion) are registered to compete in the all day event.  Admission is $8 per person.

Oak Ridge’s winter guard show is entitled “Never Sent” and is performed to Kate Nash’s musical selection “The Nicest Thing.”  Former color guard captain and 2010 ORHS graduate, Alexa Rush designed the choreography.

Tom Harrington is the color guard director.  Kelly Simon and David Jessee are assistant directors.  Senior Jennifer Qamruddin is the color guard captain.
