War Eagles Open Tournament with Big 15-2 Win

On a sun drenched day at the 51st Wharton Invitational Baseball Tournament, Oak Ridge corrected their game and put things back on track.  In taking care of a fair Cy-Springs squad 15-2, Oak Ridge pounded the ball for 10 hits and took advantage of four Cy-Springs miscues as the entire War Eagle line-up reached base in the outing.

Dillan Souther threw another fine game going four innings giving up two runs off four scattered hits while sending seven Cy-Springs batters to K-land. Souther’s control was a welcome sight as he gave up just one free pass. Tyler Cook returned to form in pitching the last inning serving up 10 pitches without allowing a foe to reach base.

Several Oak Ridge batters improved their stats during the game with Connor Sarant and Blake Stoehr both going 3 for 4 while scoring three runs with three and five RBI respectively.  Dylan Cyr reached base on all four plate appearances scoring three runs. Logan Boren and Brandon Navarro both went 2 for 3 and scored two runs each.  Matt Burke reached base on 3 of 4 plate appearances to include a triple, had 2 RBI and scored. Catcher Cody Althouse went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Tyler Cook reached base when he was hit by a pitch and scored a run.  Kyle Mims struck the ball hard but lined out to third base and right field while drawing a walk on his first plate appearance. Jeremy Dryer is the designated pinch runner for Althouse and he continues to do excellent work. An El Campo parent walking by the field was heard stating about Dryer as he slid into third base, “That boy can scoot!”

Oak Ridge plays El Campo Friday at 11am and will conclude their play in the tournament playing Columbia Saturday at 4pm. Then, it’s off to Pflugerville for the Connally Classic next weekend.
