Quiet Bats and Mistakes Waste Smith’s Gem

The Oak Ridge War Eagles were defeated by El Campo, 4-3 in what could be described as an uncharacteristically flat performance by Oak Ridge in Day 2 of the Wharton Classic.

After a solid all around performance by the War Eagles the previous day, Oak Ridge (2-6) could not come up with timely hits and were their own worst enemies in the field making two costly miscues.

Junior pitcher Josh Smith’s stellar performance was wasted as he went six innings giving up just two earned runs and scattered five hits as he fanned six El Campo batters. Blake Stoehr, Branden Navarro and Kyle Mims all had a hit and an RBI.

The War Eagles close things out in Wharton with a 4:00 pm tilt against West Columbia today.

Box Score:

Oak Ridge 010 110 0 – 3 5 2

El Campo 002 020 x – 4 5 1

Born and raised in New England, Doug promises he got to Texas as fast as he could. He earned the much needed "piece of paper" from Sam Houston State, proving to himself he could start and finish something. Doug's interests include coaching and playing any sport and still plays lacrosse competitively. He also enjoys going to dinner theaters, though he complains there just aren't enough of them in the area. Doug was brought up in a cultured envioronment, having suffered through dozens of symphonies and operas with his way too over-educated mother. At the end of the day, Doug is just a dad and husband and claims to be good at both.
