Oak Ridge Wallops Houston Christian 12-0

Near perfect baseball weather boosted Oak Ridge to a 12-0 walloping of Houston Christian at Baseball USA Tuesday night.

Oak Ridge polished their game for a final tournament in Austin before starting district play. A stellar pitching performance by Justen Heuermann, hot bats and sound defense prevailed as the War Eagles soared through a mercy rule shortened game.

On the mound, Justen Heuermann pitched the game of his career going the distance giving up 0 runs on 4 hits and 2 Oak Ridge errors.  With eight strikeouts and zero walks, Heuermann breezed through 19 Houston Christian batters in the 5 inning game.

Solid hitting and base running allowed Oak Ridge to score early and often as they chalked up 12 runs on 12 hits.  The entire line up reached base on hits with Caleb Daniels going 2 for 3 with a triple and a single.  Connor Sarant was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and a single.  Matt Burke was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk.  Logan Boren was 1 for 3 with a double.  Dylan Cyr went 1 for 3 with a double.  Blake Stoehr continued his hitting streak and was 1 for 3 at the plate.  Three more singles were chalked up as Cody Althouse, Kyle Mims and Brandon Navarro each went 1 for 3.

The play of the game was recorded when right fielder Kyle Mims collided head first into the wall to rob Houston Christians clean-up hitter of a multiple base hit saving Heuermann’s shutout.

Having gelled with a couple of tweaks in the line up, Oak Ridge appears to be readying themselves for a District 14-5A run as they open district next Tuesday night at College Park following this weekend’s four game tuneup at the Pflugerville Connally Classic in Austin.

Go on line, check out the baseball website and schedule and get out to support Coach Stacy Scheiner and your Oak Ridge War Eagles varsity baseball team … it’s great entertainment.
