Sophs Open District with 2-1 Win Over College Park

The Oak Ridge Sophomore baseball team opened district play with a 2-1 win over College Park at War Eagle field Tuesday night.

The afternoon belonged to Oak Ridge’s Drew Morytko as he out-dueled College Park’s Montana Parsons. Morytko pitched seven strong innings allowing just one earned run while whiffing four Cavaliers.

The Oak Ridge defense did their part in committing just one miscue. Oak Ridge backstop, Alex Walker threw out the only would be base stealer.

Tanner Doyle got the scoring started for the War Eagles with a leadoff triple in the first inning. Shortly thereafter, he scored on a passed ball. Oak Ridge’s second run came in the fourth inning on a Ryan Hoepner RBI ground out.

Two runs would be all Oak Ridge would need to defeat College Park this night.

The War Eagles collecting hits in the game were … Tanner Doyle 1-3 triple, Alex Walker 1-3 double, Jacob Norton 1-3 double, Kim Plympton 1-3 single and Drew Morytko 1-3 single.

Chuck Briese, Oak Ridge Now

[avatar user="cbriese" size="thumbnail" align="left"] Chuck Briese has been a resident of South Montgomery County since 1988. He and his lovely and patient wife, Leslie, have six sons, with only one left to finish high school. Chuck has been a Cub Scout leader, a Little League baseball coach, a church youth leader, and a general troublemaker over the course of the past 25 years. He is obsessed with his lawn, and likes restaurants that serve food that fills up the plate. He has a tendency to tilt at windmills, which may explain why he started Oak Ridge Now.
