War Eagles Drop District Opener to College Park

The Oak Ridge baseballers dropped their District 14-5A opener at College Park Tuesday night, 5 to 3 as the Cavaliers scored four runs in the first inning on four infield hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

Strong starting pitching combined with effective relief by College Park held Oak Ridge’s 30 batters to six hits through seven innings while Oak Ridge left six runners on base.  Picking up the win was College Park’s Parker Stevens who gave up three runs off five hits through 4.1 innings of work.  Middle reliever Greg Jakusik allowed no runs and no hits through 1.2 innings making way for fireballer Corey Toups, who shut Oak Ridge down in the 7th.

Oak Ridge’s starting pitcher Josh Smith held College Park to two hits and one run over the final five innings.  Smith faced 28 College Park batters striking out seven while walking two in his complete game effort.

Leadoff hitter Connor Sarant was two for four at the plate with a single, double and reached first base on a fielders choice.  Blake Stoehr (RBI), Dylan Cyr (RBI), Matt Burke (RBI), Brandon Navarro and Logen Boren had one hit each for Oak Ridge.

Oak Ridge’s home opener is Thursday night at 7:00 pm as they square off against Conroe for Senior Night.

Conroe was downed by Lufkin 14-4 in their home opener.
