Christmas Joys: December 7, 2010

An untold number of years ago I received as a gift the “Little Book of Christmas Joys”. It was written by H. Jackson Brown, Jr., who also penned the New York Times bestseller, “Life’s Little Instruction Book“. It is subtitled “432 things to do for yourself and others that just might make this the best Christmas ever”. Here is a list of all of our Christmas Joys for this year.

I love this little book, and we’ll be sharing five things to do each day in December leading up to Christmas. As Mr. Brown says in his introduction, “From our homes to yours, we wish you the merriest and most joyful holiday ever. And may the blessing of Christmas traditions bring hope, love, and joy to each day of your New Year.

1. Smile at police officers, firefighters, emergency personnel and security guards. Thanks them for being on the job during the holidays.

2. When you see a family or group taking holiday pictures of each other, offer to take one of the whole group.

3. Follow the Irish tradition of putting a birds nest in your Christmas tree.

4. Serve cinnamon sticks with hot cider and peppermint sticks with hot chocolate.

5. Remember that peace on earth starts with peace in our homes and in our hearts.
